Thomson Reuters Foundation news extends reach to Eikon

Stories produced by the Thomson Reuters Foundation, the expanding charitable arm of Thomson Reuters, now feature on Eikon screens, the foundation's editor-in-chief Belinda Goldsmith (photo) said in a statement.

Its team of about 30 journalists focuses on humanitarian issues, human rights, trafficking and slavery, climate change and corruption.

They include correspondents around the world, a climate editor, multimedia producers, production editors and a sub-editor, some of them former Reuters journalists.

The foundation is headed by CEO Monique Villa and overseen by a board chaired by David Binet, deputy chairman of Thomson Reuters. The board includes Stephen Adler, Reuters editor-in-chief.

Since she took the post in 2008, Villa has expanded the foundation’s work into new areas and overseen a big increase in the size of its editorial team. It runs an Arabic news website and a unit connecting NGOs to law firms that offer free assistance. It also operates in the field of media development, training journalists around the world, and in 2012 Villa launched a women’s conference in London.

All Thomson Reuters Foundation stories will carry the code TRF at the front of headlines on Eikon, the flagship financial information platform whose launch in 2010 was beset by problems. ■
