David Viggers-unorthodox but effective in cutting red tape
Tuesday 14 April 2026
“I will remember David as great company, a fun person to be around, who always offered support and encouragement to those who needed it.
He and I spent many entertaining evenings in Roman restaurants putting the world to rights (simpler times!), with David offering his own wry take on office politics, Roman ways and the workings of Reuters.
We didn’t always see eye to eye - David was a good cook, with high culinary standards, and viewed this callow trainee’s occasional orders of pizza and chips with some concern.
David also possessed a keen sense of humour and his approach to cutting through the Baronial bureaucracy could be unorthodox but effective. I recall he once threw some persistently malfunctioning screens in a skip before agreeing that they now ticked the right box as being irreparable. The necessary replacements were duly ordered.
