Sensitive suggestion

Tom Glocer is absolutely right in his assessment of Sir Christopher Hogg. Chris was an outstanding tough-minded individual who devoted his many talents to the job of chairman over the years.

The obit on The Baron mentioned Maxwell. Captain Bob started his time as a (very) non-executive director by threatening to sue the other members of the Board over something or other. Nothing happened of course. When he sold Reuters shares in a close period, Hogg had to move. He (I was told) suggested to Maxwell that following footling restrictions on his vast investment activities was irksome and that he would be better off unencumbered by trivial obligations arising from his Reuters directorship. Captain Bob warmly welcomed this sensitive suggestion and resigned. Phew. ■
