Peter Bale to head investigative journalism body in Washington

Peter Bale (photo), a Reuters correspondent and editor from 1985 to 2000, has been named chief executive of a global non-profit investigative journalism organisation based in Washington.

Bale, 52, said he was hugely privileged to join the Center for Public Integrity in the US capital. He is expected to start working there early in 2015.

Born in New Zealand, he joined Reuters in Sydney and later worked in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He then helped to found FTMarketWatch, a website set up by the Financial Times and MarketWatch. He later became online editorial director of The Times and The Sunday Times, editorial director and then international programming director of Microsoft’s MSN, and finally CNN International where he was vice president and general manager of digital operations. ■
