Nick Kotch - funny, erudite and charming

I first worked with Nick when he was BC East Africa and I was a “fly-in” from Brussels to help out on the great upheavals of the Great Lakes in the mid-1990s. 

I then became his deputy in Nairobi, before replacing him as bureau chief when he ended his assignment.

I have never stood in a bigger pair of boots. He was also very funny, very erudite, incredibly charming, supportive of everyone he came across, and an all-round good guy. ■
