Jack Hartzman

I am grateful, again, to The Baron for making it possible to share Nick Moore’s fine farewell to Jack Hartzman, who certainly had his share of eye-rolling moments with this Jewish-American chief sub who wanted to fit in on the London World Desk [Jack Hartzman laid to rest among the great]. I owe a great deal to Jack: learning about patience, about letting your work speak for you and about sheer pride in the overall news operation. He exhibited great professionalism, quiet persistence and extraordinary composure in the maelstrom of our daily file. One could learn a great deal simply from his example, and usually without rancour. Jack was a giant, and I am grateful for the privilege of having worked with him. ■
