Mac's table-top manoeuvres

I was saddened to read about the passing of Ian MacKenzie whom I worked with in Zimbabwe in the early 1990s. Besides his skills as a seasoned journalist and an excellent sous chef for Junko, Mac had a fascination for Scottish military history. Their dining room table was frequently the scene of model battles, in great detail, between hundreds of tiny blues and reds and various types of canons and arms. He could spend hours re-enacting the movements of forces had read about from various history books. True to his roots, he loved a good whisky and above all he was a kind and gentle man. Gail and I send our heartfelt condolences to Junko and their two boys. ■
