Tony Winning, a true servant of the Baron - and The Bash

Among the many warm tributes to Tony Winning at a very well attended memorial service in Dulwich on Friday October 2nd were reminders not only of his three decades of senior service for Reuters across the globe but also his largely unsung work for the Baron’s Bash.

Tony, together with his wife Fay and I, organised sessions in recent years of the annual Bash which brings together mostly former Reuters journalists from near and far for an afternoon of chat, lunch and drinks.

Tony’s passing was also a reminder that the men and women enjoying the Bash are not immune from the passage of time. A steady decline in numbers can only be resolved by bringing (fairly) fresh blood into the ranks.
