Mike Shuttleworth-a special and gentle man

Mike Shuttleworth was the most gentle and humble human.

Whether retrieving a clipboard of stories from the clerks’ files to help a sub-editor shape a story, or retrieving a story himself from the jumble filed to the desks by a correspondent, he was quietly determined to do it right, the Reuters way, and without fuss.

In newsrooms full of egos, he seemed to have none, and a zero sense of entitlement. He was a generous and helpful colleague, whatever he was doing. He was special. ■
