Reuters affirms commitment to press freedom

Reuters affirmed its commitment to the principles of a free press and the rights of journalists to go about their jobs without fear or hindrance.

In a statement issued on Friday supporting the United Nations General Assembly’s annual World Press Freedom Day on Saturday, editor-in-chief Stephen Adler said:

“Journalism is an incredibly important tool in creating free, open and informed societies. The ability of journalists to report freely on critical issues of politics, policy and leadership without fear of prosecution or retaliation is crucial in ensuring that people have access to the information that directly affects their personal and professional lives. ‘World Press Freedom Day’ reminds us that journalists remain under threat in many places around the world and that we must remain firm in our commitment to making the principles of press freedom a reality everywhere.” ■
