Obituary: Gerald 'Jerry' Bieszk

Gerald "Jerry" Bieszk, pictured, who covered the Chicago commodities markets for four decades until his retirement in July 2011, died on 10 January after a lengthy hospital stay following a bone marrow transplant. He was 66.

A memorial service was held on 18 January.

After serving in the US Navy during the Vietnam war, Bieszk joined Reuters in August 1968, first as a price clerk at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, then  clerk, teletypist, news assistant and reporter. ■
