Ex-Reuters editor becomes Newsweek editor-in-chief

Jim Impoco, who left Reuters in January in a shake-up of the organisation's digital operation, is to be editor-in-chief of Newsweek.

Impoco, pictured, a former editor at The New York Times and Fortune magazine, was one of several US journalists taken on by Reuters in a wave of high-profile hires over the last four years. He became investigations editor and then executive editor of Reuters Digital.

His appointment to the top editorial job at Newsweek was announced on Thursday by IBT Media, an online news company that acquired the 80-year-old title, which has been online-only since the beginning of this year, in August.

“I am honored to be a part of the IBT Media team and look forward to revitalizing one of the most iconic media brands in history,” Impoco said. On Wednesday it was revealed that current editor-in-chief Tina Brown will leave Newsweek and its former owner IAC when her contract expires in January. ■
