Sylvia Macdowall, sorely missed

Dear Sylvia. She will be sorely missed.

I first met her in the late autumn of 1960 at Doon and Mary Campbell’s house in Surrey when she and Ian were co-guests at a dinner party also attended by Walton Cole for my wife, Mary, and me prior to our assignment to East Berlin.

Ever since then, although our paths rarely crossed in the early days, we have been friends, sharing a common interest in many things, notably operas at Covent Garden. The Baron’s Bash will never be the same without her. ■
