Another buro bites the dust

I heard some disturbing news from the Colombo Reuters bureau the other day. Apparently the text part of the business is being wound up and only remaining is visuals/video production from end-December.

How unfortunate for a bureau that for many decades was staffed by such excellent newsmen like Clarence Fernando and Dalton De Silva with its copy being among the best of the best.

I wonder whether this is part of a worldwide exercise of cutting staff and resources in countries that don’t make a lucrative financial contribution.
