Michael Peacock leaves Reuters to work at the Bank of England

Michael Peacock (photo), politics and economics editor for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, has left Reuters after nearly 25 years to work at the Bank of England where former correspondent Jenny Scott is the central bank’s executive director of communications.

“It feels like I’ve been here for a fraction of that time and I still come in every day thinking I’m going to be found out as a fraud,” he wrote in a farewell note to colleagues.

“Times may have been tougher for us of late but the thing about Reuters that drew me to it in the first place is still indisputably true - it really matters and it matters to the whole world. It will always be ‘us’ for me.

“So keep the faith and keep focusing on what you know is important.”

Peacock starts work at the Bank of England in July “where I’ll be a Reuters consumer rather than producer for the first time. I’ll certainly be reading because still, if you read it on Reuters you can trust that it’s true. Who else can say that?” ■
