Ain't we got fun

Two discordant headlines appear in The Baron. One: "Pensioners seek UK government help to restore cost of living increases." The other: "Chairman David Thomson's net worth: $50 billion."

Reuters pensioners need increases of almost 48% to make up for their pensions' loss in value over the last 20 years. Thomson, chairman of Thomson Reuters, has become one of the world’s richest people. Known for collecting fine art, he added Reuters to his collection in 2008.

I am reminded of the old song  “There's nothing surer. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.”  The song “Ain’t We Got Fun” became symbolic of the Roaring Twenties. ■
