IT outsourcing limited to internal services - Thomson Reuters

Thomson Reuters' information technology outsourcing, disclosed last week, will be limited to internal services, the company said.

It has informed its technology staff that it will partner with a third-party vendor to provide much of its internal IT services.

“The company has not eliminated any positions or issued any employee notifications related to this announcement at this time. We felt it was important to share the news of our decision with employees as soon as we were able.”

Thomson Reuters would not say which IT services would be outsourced, where they are located, how many jobs would be affected or how much money would be saved.

“Thomson Reuters is routinely looking at ways to run our global business operations more efficiently and effectively,” it said. “This disciplined approach sometimes includes the need to make personnel, or other, changes which allow us to balance our internal resources with the needs of our customers in a highly competitive environment. Thomson Reuters has informed employees in its Technology organization that it will partner with a third-party vendor to provide much of its internal IT Services.”

The third-party provider is expected to be selected in the fourth quarter. “It is our intent that most of our Thomson Reuters IT Services employees will transition to a role with the selected third-party provider.”

A report in Minneapolis, where Thomson Reuters employs about 6,700 people in Eagan, said last week the new provider would manage data systems and that most of the company's technology workers would transfer to the third-party IT services firm, which will be selected in the fourth quarter. ■
