Golden moments, and a certain breed

I question whether there ever has been a golden period of journalism. I've had golden moments - getting scoops, tying down a second source. And I've known golden individuals such as Allan Barker, a certain breed. I have no shining anecdotes about Allan, but fondly recall interesting and friendly conversations about craftsmanship and the journalistic skills passed on to countless men and women reporters. I hope some of that talent survives today and is recognised by Thomson Reuters and other places. ■
