TV man Tim Arlott leaves after 44 years

Tim Arlott (photo), Reuters business manager for video in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, is stepping down after a 44-year career that began as a 22-year-old news film scriptwriter.

The son of the late cricket commentator, poet and wine buff John Arlott, his career spanned three companies: Visnews, Reuters Television and latterly Thomson Reuters.

Part of the Reuters agency sales team since 1996, he had previously been a member of the Reuters TV editorial team.

Anita Tobias, the agency’s global head of sales and marketing, said Arlott was the only person from the Visnews-RTV era to have been news editor for Europe and the Middle East (in London), Asia (in Tokyo), and North America (in New York). He also served in other TV bureaus including Paris, Tehran and Sydney.

“When Tim arrived at Visnews stories were syndicated to TV customers on film delivered by aircraft,” she wrote in a message to staff. “Now, we have the ability to offer our customers six live streams simultaneously…” ■
