Working for Reuters wasn't like 'work'

I was Money Markets manager in the 80s. A cross between marketing and lead sales management. The job was so interesting, fun and appreciated within, that it wasn't like “work”. Although David Ure was once told by Michael Nelson after I delivered an internal speech in Hong Kong to: "Tell Etherington that Reuters is not humorous!"

Nevertheless we produced and launched some very simple, profitable, innovative, products... It was quite common for people to come in at weekends because they wanted to. The first company event I attended was a Reuters amateur drama/revue at a theatre in the Barbican with Marion Coombes (1979). What a laugh. The following week we were at the infamous Amsterdam “Exploding Screens” sales conference (Tell that to kids today, they don't believe you!). ■
