David Betts: great journalist, wonderful friend and very kind man

When I interviewed for an EA job at Newsworld (a job that entailed running up and down stairs with scripts), I had only one thing on my resumé to make me stand out from every other J-school grad with no experience: I had interned at Reuters in London. That experience opened the doors to my first job and the almost 25 years that have followed.

David gamely took me on as an intern that fall in 1989, giving me not only the opportunity of a lifetime but - with Trixie Betts - a place to stay.

I'm forever indebted to a great journalist, wonderful friend and very kind man. ■
