Gordon Martin, a seasoned diplomat

Gordon Martin was a man of great rectitude and he took immense pride in the OBE he was awarded when he retired from his role as diplomatic editor for the BBC World Service. He had little truck for revolutionaries, saying that those who lived by the sword should be prepared to die by the sword, but for a journalist, he had the rare charm of a seasoned diplomat. ■
