The detention of an innocent Briton is a stain on the Iranian regime

It is 116 days since Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested in Iran. It remains unclear what if anything she has been charged with but she has spent much of the past three months in solitary confinement and is said to be so frail and distressed that she can barely walk. There can be few more urgent demands on the time of Boris Johnson, the new foreign secretary, than securing her release.

At the time of her arrest at Tehran airport, Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who holds British-Iranian citizenship, and her baby daughter were preparing to fly home from holiday. Her daughter, whose British passport has been confiscated, is stranded with her Iranian grandparents. Her husband, Richard, campaigns from London for her release.
