FATALITIES IN IRAQ
● Sabah al-Bazee, 30, a freelance journalist who had contributed to Reuters in Iraq since 2004, suffered fatal shrapnel wounds in an explosion when gunmen attacked a local government building in Tikrit on 29 March 2011. At least 20 other people were also killed.
● Namir Noor-Eldeen, photographer, and Saeed Chmagh, driver, killed in eastern Baghdad on 12 July 2007 at a time when clashes had been taking place between US forces and militants in the area.
● Gunmen shot and killed an Iraqi translator working for Reuters in Baghdad on 11 July 2007. His family asked that his name not be mentioned.
● Waleed Khaled, soundman, shot and killed in West Baghdad on 28 August 2005. US soldiers who fired on his car reasonably responded to what they thought was a threat, the Pentagon’s inspector general said.
● Dhia Najim, Iraqi freelance cameraman filming for Reuters, killed in Ramadi on 1 November 2004. His colleagues and family believed he had been shot by a US sniper. The US military said he died in a gun battle between Marines and insurgents.
● Mazen Dana, Palestinian cameraman, shot and killed by US troops as he filmed outside Abu Ghraib prison on 17 August 2003.
● Taras Protsyuk, Ukrainian cameraman, killed by a US tank shell fired at the Palestine Hotel in Baghdad on 8 April 2003.
