Howard Luxenberg doesn’t say anything about Tom Glocer’s vision (if any), which is more a declaration of commitment to long-termism.
There was a lot of techno-undertow in the Reuters I knew (systems not working) so I can imagine why he believes the effects won’t be seen until 2013. But if he doesn’t sharpen up the infrastructure any positive effects will be swamped by the inability of staff to perform as they should.

Yes, yes and yes [● Kim Waters on the gestation of product failure at TR]. I remember saying to my boss “Any more releases (of News2Web) like that and it’s only a question of time before we’re called ‘Bloomberg-Reuters’”. She answered “Even I wouldn’t risk saying that”!
So, three answers:
1. What do users swear by today and what do they swear at?
2. Where will the markets be in five years time?
2a. Will everyone still be working in “open-cry” offices?
2b. Can’t clever traders work from home?
2c. If markets are defined by quants who analyses the quants? (Quis Quantodiet Quantodies? Sorry, Julius).
3. How does TR get input? Social media? Is there space for a (better) social media analyser? Should TR have a closed Social Media feeding its staff? Closed to whom?

Before relapsing into paroxysms of rage I’d like to know what evidence Michael [Reupke] can command for this alleged deterioration [● Reuters values].
Assuming he’s right however: Thomsons either have no idea how to preserve their investments or they are looking for people to cull. Drivel of the kind cited by Humphrey Hudson reads like good candidate effluvia.

Humphrey Hudson was referring to another news item [● Reuters appoints news editors and bureau chiefs in Asia] which quoted an internal announcement – Editor.

Gil D'Ameglio (reportedly) once said he wanted Apple to be the Swiss penknife of the PC world. A year later Steve Jobs had retaken control.
Conclusion: Apple has gone through some pretty “non-Apple” moments too. The only thing which held the faithful to it was the wonderful UI (and the awfulness of the competition).
So Apple didn’t have to try beat Windows – it was already ahead. It had to break out of its niche market status by
● Simplifying its product line
● Closing down the Apple franchise to other hardware manufacturers
● Completely reworking its UI.
... which translates to Reuters how exactly? Er:
1. Identifying better nice financial products
2. Potentially becoming an outsource for paywall news providers (are any non-paywall news providers going to survive?)
3. Completely reworking the UI of all its products
4. Testing all its products properly (see me for a series of horror stories concerning news2web – and don't tell me it was an exception).
